About

Hello! I’m Rahul Agarwal, a seasoned Technologist with a solid 16-year background in the software sector. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with stellar companies like Yahoo, Visa, Flipkart, and Truecaller. Currently, I’m taking a well-deserved break from the tech grind, and I’m thrilled to share my story with you.

At Yahoo, I had the opportunity to dive deep into managing high-performance systems and contributing to the company’s vast and complex infrastructure. If you’ve heard of or you’ve used Yahoo! HotJobs or Yahoo! Travel properties, well, I was one of the Tech Yahoos there. Moving on to Visa, I focused on enhancing the data analytics platform, working on Big Data systems that handled billions of events ingestion daily. These were the days when enterprises adopted Hadoop ecosystem in a big way.

My journey continued at Flipkart, where I led a talented team to scale our data infrastructure to an impressive 800-node Hadoop cluster, managing petabytes of data. All on an internal private cloud built by the talented Tech@Flipkart team in-house. This experience was incredibly rewarding as we tackled the challenges of handling massive data volumes, ensuring reliability, and optimizing performance to support the growing, and at various times diverging and conflicting, needs of various internal teams who chased the resources for their daily analytics, fraud detection and Month-End-Closure reporting.

At Truecaller, I led the Cloud & Data Platform infrastructure team, where we built the modern Truecaller app infrastructure on GCP. One of the many challenging and exciting projects here was migrating our entire data infrastructure, with hundreds of terabytes of data, from on-premise setup in Sweden to Google Cloud in Mumbai – one continent to another – over the wire. Additionally, I built and managed the Truecaller Pay architecture, transitioning from monolithic to containerized micro-services and achieving an 80% reduction in infrastructure costs. If you use Truecaller today, chances are you’re using the data platform ingesting billions of events on Kafka, processing data on Hadoop cluster, and reporting infra on BigQuery, all built by our team.

I specialize in Cloud Architecture and Infrastructure, Big Data Platforms, Containerization, Infrastructure as Code, and DevSecOps, with a passion for leveraging technologies like AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes. My extensive knowledge and hands-on experience encompass areas such as Cloud Migration, Application and Data Security.

Beyond technology, I have a keen interest in finance and geopolitics. I love following global economic trends and political developments.
